As the article below states, Boston College has stopped offering e-mail accounts to new students, as of 2009. They have, instead, created an e-mail forwarding service so, for example, josh@mandala-designs.com would forward to my hotmail, gmail, yahoo, whatever account I wanted to use.
This is an interesting trend. I wish I were at the meetings where this decision got made!
For years I’ve hosted Angel LMS, and each year it has become a little more cumbersome and my clients have been a little more unhappy.
Now Blackboard has announced a “merger”. But that must really be more of an aquisition. So it goes.
I wonder if this will be a good thing for the open sourcers like Moodle? With less competition, Moodle will feature more prominently as the qualified alternative.
Still, I can’t shake the feeling that less competition is bad for the quality of the products.
I’ll need to think about this one some more before taking a stand…

My brother Jesse forwarded this link to Academic Earth a few days ago. I’ve been really enjoying the pod casts of entrepreneurial talks, especially Randy Komisar, and also the computer science classes. I’m always a fan of reviewing basics, and the CS classes have been interesting. I’m sure there’s more that they’ll be posting. The quality is good, and when it’s not good, you can grade the lectures
